Finlandia Cheese Free Coupon Giveaway – Ends 09/08

Finlandia

Earlier in the week, Finlandia sent me a free coupon good on any of their cheeses for the purposes of a review. I checked the store locator on their website, which told me I could find it at Fred Meyer. So I handed Jai the coupon and asked if he could pick it up for me while he was out running errands. He couldn’t find the cheese anywhere in the store, so he asked an employee, who told him that their store had stopped carrying Finlandia months ago. There’s no other stores in our area that carry this brand, so since we won’t be able to use this coupon, I decided to pass it on to one of you who can. One Super Coupon Girl reader will win a coupon good for one free 1/2 lb of any Finlandia cheese, so read on!

Finlandia Recipes

Finlandia emailed me a hamburger recipe that I thought I’d share in case the winner of this giveaway wants to try it with their free cheese:

Walmart: $10 Gift Card When You Transfer a Prescription Online

Walmart Prescription Coupon

Walmart is currently offering a $10 e-gift card to anyone who transfers a prescription to their pharmacy for the first time. This offer requires that you transfer your prescription using their online system and sign up for home delivery. Click here to read more about this offer. This offer is not available in some states and carries other restrictions, so be sure to read the fine print carefully; they also provide a toll-free hotline you can call with any questions.

I’ve written in the past how I’ve utilized offers such as this to earn a gift card profit & offset the cost of prescriptions. If you’re considering transferring a prescription in order to redeem an offer such as this, it is critical that you call the pharmacy first and find out exactly how much it will cost to fill your prescription. Different pharmacies charge different amounts for the same medications, so make sure that it’s actually cost-effective to transfer your RX first. For example, last year I took a prescription in to a pharmacy and asked how much it would cost to fill (I do this whether I have a coupon or not!). They quoted me $40 for the prescription. I then took it to a different pharmacy on the same day and filled the prescription for $6. Prices can really vary, so do your homework first!

Thanks to Frugal Fabulous Finds for the info about this offer!

Saving Money When Your Mobility Is Limited

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted any shopping trip recaps lately. The reason for this is that there simply haven’t been any! After having knee problems for an extended period of time, I finally got a diagnosis of dislocated patella. Turns out I had been walking around with two dislocated kneecaps for over a year – that explains why I’ve been having so much trouble for so long!! Luckily, the treatment for this does not require surgery. I’m following an outpatient program and do 1-2+ hours of physiotherapy every day. The upshot to this is that I have been pretty much housebound. I’ve had several backslides in recovery when my knees started feeling better and I tried to add more activity back into my daily life. In order to make sure that I heal up for good this time, I have to strictly limit all my activity – doctor’s orders. This means I pretty much have to stay put, sitting either here at my desk or on the couch, with my feet propped up and icepacks on my knees.

Because of all this, coupon shopping has been an impossibility. Jai is in charge of the shopping while I recover, so our strategy to minimize costs at the moment is to just buy food with inexpensive shelf prices, and take advantage of online sales whenever possible. We also have to keep it simple with foods that are quick to prepare, because I can’t stay on my feet for long. It’s unbelievably frustrating to be so limited, but the good news is that my efforts are paying off and my knees are getting stronger. My physiotherapist estimated that I’d start seeing real improvement by the end of next month, so my hope is that I will be able to resume some of my normal activities by then.

So readers, I’m curious: Have you ever been in a situation like this before? What did you do to reduce your expenses when you couldn’t clip coupons?

This Month’s Rebate Checks

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Checks from Ebates & ShopAtHome

I’ve received two rebate checks this month: One from Ebates for $23.40, and one from ShopAtHome for $30.89. This is the second rebate check that I’ve gotten from Ebates and the first one I’ve received from ShopAtHome. That’s a total of $54.29 in rebates – nice! I like to share these photos to illustrate why it’s worth using online rebates. You may only get a small amount back from each purchase, but it does add up and eventually pays off; so if you’re shopping online anyway, why throw money away? Both of these sites also offer a sign-up bonus, as well as a bonus anytime someone registers through your link. If you’re new to online rebates, check out my article “How I Save Money With Online Rebates” to learn more.

Have you received any rebate checks this month?
